To manage natural resources in such a way that agricultural productivity is improved and sustained, it is necessary to have suitable tools to reach decisions that satisfy system requeriments and farmer family needs. Crop and farm level modeling need to be integrated into regional and geographic perspectives though the incorporation of geographic information concepts. The objetive of this work is to propose a tool based on a geographic information system (GIS) that would be a framework for decision-makers from Silvania's municipaly. Data are concerning soil type, climate, hydrology, and socio-economic aspects such as: health public service, rural schools, and farm production statistics. A database containing all of these elements is under development. By using the data in comprehensive modeling framework, questions related to the desing of the agricultural producion systems of any Silvania municipal sub-region can be promptly projected. This framework will incorporate a GIS to manage maps and tabular data, in addition to mathematical madels and other analytical tools, which will regional planning and support appropiate decisions for a more sustainable agriculture. |
